What the Intervals app and this website collect, why, where it goes and how to delete it. Written from how the app actually works.

Summary

  • You sign in with Apple or Google. We never see your password.
  • Your runs sync to your Intervals account. That includes precise GPS routes and heart-rate samples recorded during the run, so your history is backed up and available on your devices.
  • Apple Health access is optional and controlled by you in iOS settings. Health trends are shown on your device and not uploaded.
  • No advertising, no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and we don’t sell personal data.
  • Apple handles payments. We keep a minimal subscription record, including after account deletion, so a paid subscription can be restored.
  • You can deactivate or permanently delete your account in the app.
  • This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Contact form messages are emailed to us, not stored by the site.

Who we are

Intervals is a running app for iPhone and Apple Watch. It appears on the App Store as “Run Tracker & Coach”. It is developed by Paul Davis, an individual developer who publishes apps under the Perfect Dimension brand. In this policy “we”, “us” and “our” mean Paul Davis, who is responsible for (the controller of) personal data processed by the app and this website.

To contact us, use the contact form on our support page.

If what the app does changes, we will update this policy before the change reaches you.

Account and sign-in

You need an account to use Intervals. You sign in with Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In. We don’t create or store passwords.

  • With Apple, the app asks for your name and email address. Apple lets you hide your email using a relay address. With Google, the app uses Google’s standard sign-in, which provides your basic profile and email address.
  • Your name, email address (if provided), sign-in provider and provider user ID are kept on your iPhone in the iOS Keychain, on that device only.
  • Our servers store an account identifier derived from your sign-in provider and your provider user ID. It links your data to you. For ordinary accounts our servers do not store your name or email address.
  • If you take part in a pre-release testing programme, we may keep your email address on a tester list so we can give you access.

Profile, shoes and settings

These sync to your account so they follow you to a new device:

  • Runner profile, if you fill it in: a name, an optional location and short bio, and an optional profile photo. You choose the photo with the iOS photo picker, so the app only receives the photo you pick, never your library. It is stored as a small thumbnail.
  • Shoes: names, starting distance, which pair is your default and which are retired.
  • App settings: your coach, voice and cue options, spoken splits, haptics, Watch display fields, audio levels, notification and reminder preferences and download options.

Your runner profile is not sent to your Apple Watch.

Runs, location and health

Location and motion

With your permission, Intervals uses your location while you record a workout, to measure your route and distance. Recording continues while the screen is locked during a run. Intervals asks for “While Using the App” access, not “Always”. It also uses motion data to measure movement and distance.

Apple Health (HealthKit)

Apple Health access is optional. You choose which types to allow, and can change this at any time in iOS settings.

  • Writing to Apple Health: completed runs as workouts, with route, heart rate, walking and running distance and active energy.
  • Reading from Apple Health: the same types plus running speed, to record and show your runs; and, read-only, cardio fitness (VO2 max), heart-rate recovery, resting heart rate and heart-rate variability to show trends. Intervals never writes these fitness estimates.
  • Health trends are shown on your device. They are not uploaded to our servers.

What syncs to your Intervals account

Recording a run in the app and syncing your run history are separate from reading Apple Health. When you finish a run, Intervals saves it to your account so it isn’t lost and appears on your other devices. A synced run contains:

  • A run summary: the workout you ran, start time, elapsed and active time, distance, pace and speed, splits for each interval, a heart-rate value, active energy, the shoe used and whether it was recorded on iPhone or Apple Watch.
  • Your post-run check-in: EASY, OK or HARD, and any note you write.
  • Detailed records: the full GPS route (time, latitude and longitude, altitude, accuracy, speed and direction for each point), heart-rate samples during the run and for about two minutes afterwards (to measure recovery), distance and energy samples, and pause and resume events.

Runs recorded on Apple Watch on its own transfer to your iPhone and sync from there. The Watch app does not connect to our servers directly.

We use health and location data only to provide Intervals’ features to you. We don’t use it for advertising or marketing, don’t sell it and don’t share it with data brokers. Intervals is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice.

Workouts, plans and audio

  • Custom workouts you create (title, the author name you enter, notes, intervals, cues and any script text) sync to your account. Audio clips attached to them are stored in private cloud storage.
  • Plans and schedules, including planned sessions and what you’ve completed, sync to your account.
  • Coach packs and coached runs download from our storage after the server checks that your account can access them. Downloads use temporary links that expire within minutes.
  • If your account unlocked free coached content under an earlier version of the app, that unlock is recorded so you keep it.

Shared workout links

You can share a custom workout as a link. Sharing creates a copy of that workout, including its title, author name, notes, intervals, cues and audio, at a public web address.

  • Anyone with the link can open and download the workout without signing in.
  • A shared link never includes your run history, routes, health data, profile or photo.
  • The copy is taken when you share. Later edits don’t change it.
  • People who import your workout keep their copy, even if your link stops working.
  • All your links stop working while your account is deactivated, and are removed if you delete it.
  • The app doesn’t yet have a button to switch off a single link, and deleting a workout doesn’t disable its link. Contact us and we will disable it for you.

Subscriptions

Intervals Premium is sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment; we never receive your card or payment details. To connect a purchase to your account and keep Premium working, we store:

  • a random purchase token, which Apple attaches to your purchases, and a one-way hash of your account identifier;
  • the product, original and latest transaction IDs, subscription status, expiry date, renewal and grace-period details, whether the subscription is in a free trial, and whether it was a test purchase;
  • notifications Apple sends us about your subscription (event type, transaction ID and times).

We keep these records after you delete your account so that a subscription you are still paying for can be restored to a new account, and to handle refunds, disputes and our legal obligations. They contain no run, health or profile data. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel your subscription; you manage and cancel it in your Apple account settings.

Notifications

  • Run reminders are scheduled on your iPhone for plan days, only if you turn on reminders. They don’t need our servers.
  • Push notifications: if you allow notifications while signed in, we store your device’s push token, a random installation ID, whether notifications are allowed, your choices for training reminders and “New plans and app news”, your time zone and reminder time, and when we last sent you one.
  • For each push we send, we record the message, the delivery result from Apple and whether you opened it. We don’t send pushes between 22:00 and 07:00 in your time zone, or more than one every 20 hours.
  • You can turn notifications off in the app or in iOS settings. When you sign out, your push token is removed from your account; an installation record with no account attached remains.

Optional voice generation

The coach voices you hear are pre-recorded and ship with the app or download as coach packs. Playing them sends nothing to any AI service, and no live AI coach receives your run or health data.

Intervals includes an optional authoring tool for generating your own coaching audio with ElevenLabs. It isn’t available in the main app experience at the moment. If it is offered and you use it, the script text you write, the voice you choose and the speech speed are sent to ElevenLabs when you tap Generate, using an ElevenLabs API key that you provide. Your key is stored in your device’s Keychain. Your location, run measurements and health data are not sent. ElevenLabs’ own terms and privacy policy apply to that request.

What we don’t collect

  • No advertising, and no advertising identifier or cross-app tracking.
  • No third-party analytics or crash-reporting services.
  • No microphone, camera, contacts or photo-library access.
  • No date of birth, weight, height or sex.

The app keeps a small diagnostics log on your device to help investigate workout problems. It is not uploaded.

This website

intervals.perfectdimension.com is a static site hosted by Vercel. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics or advertising. When you visit, Vercel necessarily processes standard request information, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time, to deliver the page and protect the service. Coach voice previews load only when you press play. To show Premium prices in your currency, the pricing section asks the server for your country, which Vercel works out from your IP address. Only the two-letter country code is used, it isn’t stored, and no cookie is set.

Contact form

If you use the contact form on the support page, we receive your email address, your name if you give it, the topic you choose and your message. The website doesn’t store them in a database: they are sent straight to our mailbox as an email through Resend, our email delivery provider, and we use them only to reply and to deal with your request. We keep the email in our mailbox for as long as we need it for that request and any follow-up. Resend keeps records of the emails it delivers under its own privacy policy.

Service providers

We use these providers to run Intervals. They process data on our behalf, or under their own terms where noted.

We don’t sell personal data or share it for advertising. We may disclose information if the law requires it.

International transfers

Our providers may store or process data in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where UK or EU law requires safeguards for these transfers, we rely on the mechanisms our providers offer, such as standard contractual clauses or adequacy decisions.

Keeping and deleting data

We keep your account data while your account exists. In the app, under Settings › Your account, you can:

  • Deactivate your account. Your history, workouts and plans are kept, your shared links stop working and the app stops syncing. Sign in again to reactivate.
  • Permanently delete your account. Access closes straight away. We then delete your runs and detailed records, workouts, plans, settings and profile, shared links, stored audio files, push registrations and notification history in background batches; stored audio files are checked again a day later. If you signed in with Apple, we revoke Intervals’ Apple access; with Google, the app disconnects Google access.

After deletion we keep only:

  • a record that the account identifier was deleted, so deletion can complete and a new sign-up starts with an empty account;
  • the subscription records described above;
  • anonymous push installation records with no account attached.

We haven’t set fixed time limits for these records; we keep them only while they are needed for the reasons given. Our database provider may keep backups for a limited period, so deleted data can remain in backups until they expire.

Some copies are outside our control:

  • Data on your devices stays there until you delete it or the app. Deleting your account clears the app’s local data on that iPhone.
  • Records in Apple Health stay in Apple Health. Deleting your account doesn’t remove them; you can manage them in the Health app. Deleting a single run in Intervals also deletes the workout Intervals saved to Apple Health for that run.
  • Copies of shared workouts that other people imported.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you can ask to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal data, restrict or object to how we use it, and withdraw consent at any time. The app doesn’t have a data export yet;contact us and we will send you a copy. We may need to confirm the request comes from the account holder, and will reply within the time the law requires.

  • Health access: Settings › Privacy & Security › Health › Intervals.
  • Location: Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › Intervals.
  • Notifications: in the app, or Settings › Notifications › Intervals.

If you are in the UK you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk). In the EU, contact your local data protection authority. We’d appreciate the chance to help first.

Security

Sign-in is handled by Apple and Google. Data travels to our services over encrypted connections, and every request is checked against your account so you only reach your own data. Audio files sit in private storage and are fetched through links that expire within minutes. Sign-in details on your iPhone are kept in the iOS Keychain. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and limit what we collect.

Children

Intervals doesn’t ask for your age. If you think a child has given us personal data without the involvement of a parent or guardian, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

We’ll update this page when the app or our practices change, and change the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your data, we’ll tell you in the app or on this site before it applies.
